'Almost titled' is a little collection I made by dealing with memories from my childhood. I had grown up in a communistic country, where goods like 'SURPRISE' chocolate eggs, jeans, coca- cola, bananas, cream 'NIVEA' and soap "FA" were treated on a high 'luxury' level. Not because they were so expensive. They were simply missing from the market, becoming a strange kind of dream for every regular person. Now in the position of adult (living in post communistic society), I have tried, with this work, to recreate the feeling of disappointment and emptiness, placing myself on the boarder between past and present. The luxury objects turn into a 'trash' food and stuffs for a daily use. 'Almost titled' is my way to re- think and represent the absurd of a system without a choice, raising also the question: Whether life is more mean full- when there is no choice or when we think that we have unlimited choices? The difficulties I had to answer, caused the title of my project. To create the images in the book, I used the technique of the scanner, keeping the objects more or less away from its surface. The result is in the sharp and almost blurry spots in every picture, symbolizing the interaction between past and present. |
